Can a soft inquiry affect my credit score?

No, a soft inquiry cannot affect your credit score.

A soft credit inquiry usually occurs when someone or a company check your credit as part of a background check. For instance, a potential employer or landlord might run a soft credit enquiry. A credit card issuer (like your bank or other financial institutions) might also run a soft inquiry to see if you’re eligible for certain offers.

Another example of a soft credit inquiry, is when you use third party apps like CreditKarma, MOGO, BorrowWell, etc. These apps access your credit score with information from the two major credit bureaus – Equifax and TransUnion – to check your credit score. With third party apps, you can access these apps as many times as you’d like without affecting your credit score.
